About The Position

The Kitchen Helper assists the Kitchen Food Manager in preparing meal trays, serving food, and keeping kitchen work areas neat and organized. The position is temporary and part-time, working 20–29 hours per week from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Most duties are performed at CHEER locations. The position reports to the Food Service Manager and is non-exempt.

Requirements

Minimum of two years of kitchen experience.
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate kitchen equipment such as knives, ovens, and dishwashers.
Ability to follow basic cooking routines.
Ability to follow detailed written or oral instructions and apply common sense.
Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; upholds organizational values and follows policies and procedures.
Consistent attendance and punctuality; follows instructions and management directions.
Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, completes work in a timely manner, observes safety and security procedures, and uses equipment and materials properly.
Ability to reach with hands and arms; stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

Fill individual serving cartons with portions of foods and condiments.
Serve salads, vegetables, meat, breads, soups, sauces, desserts, and beverages as indicated.
Replenish foods at serving stations and brew coffee and tea.
Operate a heat seal machine and monitor food temperatures using thermometers.
Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas.
Maintain clean workstations; wash dishes, workables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.
Segregate and remove trash, placing it in designated containers.
Scrub and polish counters, steam tables, and other equipment.
Stock the supply room with supplies and food.
Label packaging for distribution to homebound seniors.
Perform other duties as directed by the Kitchen Manager or Program Director.
