About The Position

Under general supervision, plans, prepares, and serves meals for juveniles in the Detention Home and manages the kitchen operation. This is a safety-sensitive position as defined under Oklahoma Statute Title 63 § 427.8. All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

  • Valid Food Handlers Permit
  • Valid Food Manager's Certification
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Manage the kitchen staff and arranges work schedules.
  • Maintain leave records for staff.
  • Prepare meals according to the designated menu of the Detention Home and number of persons to be served.
  • Maintain a security count of all utensils used at each meal and the return of same before juveniles leave the dining area.
  • Prepare or leave instructions for the preparation of snacks.
  • Plan for and provide for the purchasing of all necessary food and commodities as determined through inventory, quality, yield and cost.
  • Maintain kitchen inventory and request supplies as needed.
  • Purchase weekly perishable foods as needed and in accordance with Tulsa County procurement policy and procedure as determined through inventory.
  • Clean and keep sanitary all areas of the kitchen and storage space.
  • Meet City/County Health Department sanitation codes as well as Child Nutrition Program requirements.
  • Provide proper care of equipment such as defrosting freezers, cleaning filters and reporting any equipment failure immediately to the Superintendent.
  • Frequently uses the computer to produce reports or ordering food products and inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Directly supervises 5 employees in the Juvenile Detention Home Kitchen.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
