About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring a Kitchen Assistant for its Indianapolis, Indiana location. The role supports the head chef with food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and stocking, and helps maintain an organized, sanitary, and well-functioning kitchen. The Kitchen Assistant follows food storage, labeling, and food safety procedures and collaborates with the behavioral health technician (BHT) team to prepare and serve meals and complete cleanup.

The position is offered on either a morning shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or a mid shift from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The workplace is an Indianapolis detox and residential rehabilitation facility.

Requirements

• Relevant experience or training necessary to serve as a professional chef.
• If in recovery, at least one year of sustained sobriety.
• Strong time management and multitasking skills.
• Ability to collaborate and work efficiently.
• Comprehensive understanding of health and sanitation laws.

Responsibilities

• Support the head chef with food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and stocking.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and function through consistent washing and tidying.
• Keep the kitchen organized and stocked by replenishing supplies when they are running low.
• Follow food storage policies, labeling protocols, and food safety regulations.
• Collaborate with the BHT team on meal preparation, service, and cleanup.
