About The Position

The Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) is seeking to fill three vacancies for a King County Veteran Reentry Program Coordinator (Project/Program Manager I). Two positions are for Career Services, and one is a Special Duty Assignment/Term Limited Temporary. These roles will collaborate with the King County Veterans Program, DAJD, and VA partners to support veterans involved in the criminal legal system who are transitioning from incarceration. DCHS values diverse perspectives and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including those with lived experiences. The Adult Services Division (ASD) of DCHS focuses on providing human services programs that promote housing stability, financial stability, healthy living, and social engagement for veterans, service members, and their families, among other communities. ASD also manages funding from the Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) and other sources, and supports various advisory boards.

Requirements

Must either have an existing security clearance or be able to obtain a security clearance within 6 months of hire, and be able to pass a background check to allow secure access to King County correctional facilities.
Knowledge of and experience working with veteran or military services and resources, especially in King County or the Puget Sound region, including King County Veterans Program, VSHSL-funded partners, and the WA state and federal VA.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, as a team lead, and as a team member.
Skill in working as an effective team member.
Knowledge of health and social issues impacting target population and community well-being.
Basic quantitative skills.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Skills in gathering, manipulating, and using data.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook email, and web-based applications.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Experience (1+ years of professional-level or equivalent) providing direct client services related to the social service field or outreach programs.

Responsibilities

Provide outreach, engagement, and reentry support/care coordination for veterans who are incarcerated in King County correctional facilities and/or recently released to King County.
Conduct reentry needs assessments, develop reentry plans, and coordinate services with community resources.
Assist clients in securing linkages to behavioral and primary healthcare; housing; veterans benefits and/or other entitlements and publicly funded benefits; educational and vocational resources; and other basic needs.
Assist clients with accessing needed services by setting up and attending appointments with clients if needed to provide continuity of care.
Collaborate with criminal legal partners to understand the needs of incarcerated veterans and facilitate reentry/resource groups at King County correctional facilities (in coordination with community partners when appropriate) to address identified needs.
Serve as liaison to King County Veterans Program and work collaboratively with partners such as VA Puget Sound, WA Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), ETS REACH, King County Jail Health Services, King County Therapeutic Courts, King County Department of Public Defense (DPD), King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (PAO), and partner correctional facilities, such as the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) and Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) to identify and provide reentry support services to King County veterans with criminal legal system involvement.
Gather data and identify trends in the incarcerated veteran population and assist in analysis for program development and continuous quality improvement.
Identify gaps and barriers in available community resources and advocate for systemic changes.
Assist in program planning, data submission, and report drafting.
Collaborate with criminal legal/correctional facility partners on reporting needs as requested.
Maintain a broad working knowledge of veteran resources in King County and coordinate services, including VSHSL-funded programs.
Provide information about relevant community-based resources to veterans with criminal legal involvement, their families, and criminal legal partners.
Network with other jurisdictions to coordinate and share information.
Respond to inquiries about the program, procedures, processes, or relevant regulations and laws.
Perform other duties as assigned.
