About The Position

The Kindergarten Paraprofessional Parlin Dual Immersion Portuguese will support the Dual Language Portuguese Kindergarten classroom at the Parlin School. Paraprofessionals do not typically have child-specific assignments but are assigned to a classroom or classrooms.

Requirements

  • High school degree or higher.
  • Enjoys working with children and is dedicated to the education of all children.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in Portuguese in addition to English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in schools, child care settings, or camps.
  • Experience working in an urban district is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general support for a classroom or classrooms that support inclusive and culturally sustaining instruction.
  • Provide small-group or whole-group assistance within the classroom, including support for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
  • Engage individual learners and small groups in instructional activities.
  • Provide academic support and carry over the lessons developed by the teacher or special education teacher in small groups.
  • Develop materials based on specific instruction from the classroom and/or special education teachers.
  • Create opportunities and instruct students to be independent in various settings across their school day.
  • Support classrooms and students across multiple grade levels.
  • Implement behavioral/social support plans to address the social-emotional learning needs of individual students or groups in the classroom (including, but not limited to, attending, noncompliance, task completion, and following rules and classroom expectations).
  • Provide all accommodations delineated within a student's designated IEP/504.
  • Implement modifications developed by the classroom teacher and/or Special Education teacher.
  • Support scaffolds for multilingual learners during classroom and small-group instruction.
  • Share relevant learner information with teachers and other school personnel to facilitate problem-solving, decision-making, and program planning.
  • Support students in accessing a variety of technologies.
  • Complete all required documentation related to incidents, accidents, discipline, assault, etc.
  • Complete data collection related to academic functioning/student performance that supports instruction.
  • Facilitate positive relationships and engagement with peers.
  • Support students in organizing materials, assignments, and schedules.
  • Ensure that all accommodations outlined in the IEPs are implemented based on student needs.
  • Support students during their specials, lunch, and recess times.
  • Facilitate and support students' arrival and dismissal times.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities the principal or designee assigns.
  • Assist medically fragile or physically disabled students in maintaining their hygiene.
  • Assist students with physical and/or cognitive disabilities with grooming, feeding, toileting, and diapering.
