About The Position

The Kids Express and Urgent Care Tech is responsible for supporting nurses, nurse practitioners, and physicians in delivering patient care, with attention to the development levels of each patient. This role requires strong communication skills, a willingness to accept delegated tasks, and the ability to ask questions and report relevant patient information appropriately. The Tech handles patient information with a clear understanding of confidentiality and privacy standards. They comply with the hospital’s safety management policies to maintain a hazard-free environment and reduce the risk of injury. The position also reflects a commitment to the hospital’s mission and promotes a patient and family centered experience. The Tech serves as a change agent, adapting to census fluctuations and meeting the evolving needs of both internal and external customers. This role also involves assisting the nurse practitioner in patient care activities, coordinating medical supply and equipment needs, following point of care lab testing policies, registering patients in the Emergency Department, providing excellent customer service, accurately entering patient information into Epic EMR, verifying insurance, assisting with financial counseling, ensuring proper documentation is signed and scanned, and collecting patient co-pays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • 1 year of PCA, STNA, or Medical Assistant experience is required
  • 1 year customer service experience is required
  • Experience documenting in an electronic medical record (EMR) is required

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Medical Assistant is strongly preferred. This is required to work to the full scope of practice at Kids Express and Urgent Care locations

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the nurse practitioner in completion of patient care activities, taking into account patient’s developmental levels.
  • Coordinating with other staff within the organization to meet the medical supply and equipment needs for Kids Express.
  • Following all policies and procedures related to point of care lab testing.
  • Registering patients in the Emergency Department in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Projecting a positive first impression of Dayton Children’s Hospital and provide excellent customer service during the entire registration process.
  • Accurately entering patient information into each patient data record (Epic EMR) by skillfully interviewing patients, parents, or legal guardians.
  • Verifying all 3rd party insurance or Medicare/Medicaid coverage for payment.
  • Assisting in arranging meeting with Financial Counselors for any patients or families needing financial assistance.
  • Ensuring all legal consents, HIPAA notifications, and other documentation (photo ID and insurance cards) are properly signed, verified, and scanned.
  • Collecting patient co-pays for services.
