About The Position

The Kids Corner Shift Lead leads and provides overall direction to Kids Corner attendants and ensures the safety and security of children under their supervision. The role acts in accordance with the YMCA’s mission and its character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. The Shift Lead must be available for at least 75% of the shift, including either opening or closing, and maintains a professional attitude in all circumstances. The position is part-time and is located at Morris Hospital YMCA in Morris, Illinois.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with children.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, and Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Harassment training, required before the first day of hire.
• Must be available for at least 75% of the shift, including either opening or closing.
• Ability to work long hours with a positive attitude.
• Ability to plan, lead, and participate in a range of activities in indoor and outdoor settings.

Nice To Haves

• One year or more of college.
• Experience in one or more areas of child care.
• Previous experience with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Act as leader for Kids Korner attendants.
• Ensure the safety and security of children under supervision.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those concerning medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
• Communicate with parents or guardians regarding children’s behavior or illness.
• Complete and submit accident reports and reportable condition forms in a timely manner.
• Notify the supervisor of problems or issues that arise during the shift.
• Decide when a child must be immediately removed during the shift because of behavior, such as fighting or hitting, or illness.
• Verify that opening and closing procedures are completed for every shift.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.
