About The Position

This posting outlines multiple roles within values-driven kaupapa Māori organisations in Te Tauihu. The roles include Kaiārahi | Programme Lead, Whānau Navigator (Kaitūwhana), and Registered Social Worker. Requirements

  • Experience coordinating community, wellbeing, recreation, health or social service activities.
  • Confidence building relationships with kaumātua, tāngata whaikaha and whānau.
  • Strong planning, administration, communication and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Full New Zealand driver licence.
  • First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain same.
  • Ability to work flexibly when programme activities require.
  • A relevant qualification or background, which may include Whānau Ora, Māori health, family harm, mental health and addictions, te reo Māori and tikanga, social work, teaching, facilitation, health sciences, or community development.
  • Experience working with Māori in a kaupapa Māori environment, using trauma-informed, strengths-based practice.
  • Comfortable building trusting relationships and holding a caseload with care and good judgement.
  • Current registration with the Social Workers Registration Board NZ (SWRBNZ), with a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience practising as a registered social worker.
  • A working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a genuine commitment to Māori health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Current First Aid certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in kaupapa Māori settings, and knowledge of te reo me ōna tikanga, would be an advantage for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver a programme of activities, events and community connections that supports kaumātua and tāngata whaikaha to stay active, connected and engaged.
  • Help participants set and work towards personalised wellbeing goals.
  • Keep accurate programme records.
  • Link whānau with other services when needed.
  • Connect, advocate, and coach whānau to identify their needs and aspirations, and navigate pathways in health, housing, education, employment, and wellbeing.
  • Build whānau-led plans grounded in kaupapa Māori practice.
  • Walk alongside whānau as they work towards their goals.
  • Build trusted relationships with young people and their whānau.
  • Work closely with other agencies.
  • Manage reporting and safety concerns in line with best practice.
