About The Position

We are looking for an R&D Process and Mechanical Integrity Engineer with technical skills to support the Kapton Semi-Works casting process and new formulations development for Qnity R&D electronic materials business. Identifies, assesses, and develops engineering concepts and/or technologies to provide solutions for the KSW process. Evaluates technical process problems and executes capex/cost projects. Implements continuous improvement initiatives to run and maintain operability for the KSW process. Demonstrates leadership skills for the development and/or application of new products, processing techniques, and day-to-day trouble shooting. Capable of supporting multiple programs. The main objective of this role is to work with a broad team of casting operations, maintenance, and research personnel progressing new product casting along with small lot commercial sales. Must be able to assist with transferring technology from pilot to full scale manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience (minimum 5+ years) in web handling and film process technology
  • Experience in process/product development.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in MS Office.
  • Green Six Sigma methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the product development team as a film process engineer.
  • This will include planning, executing, and analyzing various trials on two Polyimide film casting processes.
  • Contribute to the execution and improvement of the site’s safety and Process Safety Management systems (PSM element responsibilities).
  • Understand the polyimide formulation, slurry dispersions, thermal casting, chemical casting, die flow rheology, organic solvent drying, film web handling, and high temperature oven tentering.
  • Collaborate with the research scientist for new formulation scale-up.
  • Implement programs to improve quality and product performance.
  • Needs to be capable of solving problems or addressing immediate issues for the product development team that will contribute to functionality of the manufacturing process.
  • Network with site engineering technical resources throughout Circleville to use the best available technologies to support production.
  • Provide on-call support for researchers or small-scale production film processing.
  • Provide support to the KSW process to improve higher production yields, improve film quality, and support casting operations.
  • Basic understanding of multiple polymer feed block and die technologies.
  • Supports Circleville site improvement initiatives through leadership and participation on site PSM element teams.
  • Participates in 1st and 2nd party annual or three-year cyclic PSM element audits
  • Troubleshooting of product technical issues day-to-day.
  • Identify, gain approval, and complete programs to significantly improve yield, quality, and/or production efficiency.
