The Kapnick Fellowship in Creative Writing at the University of Virginia is a nine-month, post-MFA/PhD Research Associate position for an emerging writer of literary prose. The fellow joins the UVA Creative Writing Program community and teaches undergraduate creative writing workshops. The fellowship begins in Fall 2027 and is a residential position in Charlottesville, Virginia. It is not renewable, has a nine-month term limit, and carries no other teaching, graduate study, or fellowship obligations. The fellow teaches a 2-1 course load: two courses in the Fall and one in the Spring. Two courses will be a multi-genre introduction to creative writing for undergraduates, and the third will be designed by the fellow. The position pays a salary of $47,000 and offers eligibility for a full UVA benefits package. Applicants must have completed an MFA or PhD in Creative Writing within the specified date range, have some prior teaching experience, and have a record of publication. A full-length book is not required, and applicants must not have one published or under contract. Interest or experience in additional creative-writing areas is desirable. The University conducts background checks on new hires.
