About The Position

Nah Tah Wahsh PSA is seeking a dedicated, student-centered K–8 Elementary Teacher to support the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, standards-based instruction while fostering a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learners. Grounded in the values of the Hannahville Indian Community, this position emphasizes culturally responsive teaching, the integration of Indigenous perspectives, and inclusive practices that support students with special education needs within the general education setting. The teacher will foster a learning environment that honors student identity, promotes belonging, and supports the development of the whole child.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (Elementary certification required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices for supporting students with diverse learning needs
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with special education staff and support service providers
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and working with Native/Indigenous students and communities

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in core subject areas, including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of all students
  • Implement inclusive instructional practices that support students with special education needs within the general education classroom
  • Collaborate with special education staff to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, and modifications
  • Integrate culturally relevant and community-based perspectives into instruction
  • Establish clear learning objectives and communicate expectations to students
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment for all learners
  • Build positive relationships with students and foster a sense of belonging
  • Promote student responsibility, collaboration, and positive behavior
  • Use classroom management strategies that are fair, consistent, and aligned with school policies
  • Support the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students through proactive and responsive practices
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction
  • Utilize student data, including IEP goals where applicable, to inform instructional decisions
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records
  • Communicate student progress effectively with families and staff
  • Collaborate regularly with general education, special education, and support staff to ensure coordinated services for students
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to student support planning as needed
  • Engage in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and professional development
  • Assist in the selection and development of instructional materials and resources
  • Support school events and activities as assigned
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth
  • Incorporate culturally responsive and sustaining practices into teaching
  • Engage with families and community members to support student learning
  • Support opportunities for students to connect learning to community, culture, and traditions
