The K-8 Teacher - Sped Teacher is responsible for promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of any student assigned. This role involves using available instructional materials and a variety of techniques to provide opportunities for student achievement and development, demonstrating knowledge and application of appropriate developmental practices for young children, and maintaining accurate and neat records including class lists, attendance, health records, roll book, report cards, and permanent folders. The teacher is also responsible for maintaining an attractive classroom, developing and implementing proper classroom management techniques, completing reports and assignments in a timely fashion, and planning and preparing for classes by submitting weekly lesson plans. The position requires regular and punctual reporting to assigned work locations and duties, notifying the principal of absences, and providing substitutes with adequate plans and materials. Furthermore, the teacher must properly maintain assigned books and equipment, stay knowledgeable about system methods, programs, curriculum guides, and resources, and use various methods for diagnosis and placement. The role also involves exhibiting self-control, providing for individual differences, continually evaluating student progress, cooperating with school-based and central office personnel, encouraging parent involvement, demonstrating professional growth through inservice training and faculty meetings, conforming to Louisiana laws concerning student education, health, safety, and welfare, assisting in the development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools, and actively participating in the evaluation process. The teacher will perform all other duties assigned by the principal.
