The K-8 Teacher - Sped SSCD Teacher is responsible for promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of any student assigned. This role involves using available instructional materials and a variety of techniques to provide opportunities for student achievement and development, demonstrating knowledge and application of appropriate developmental practices for young children. The teacher is expected to maintain accurate records, an attractive classroom, and implement proper classroom management techniques. Responsibilities also include planning and preparing for classes, submitting weekly lesson plans, reporting regularly and punctually, and notifying the principal of absences. The teacher will maintain assigned books and equipment, become knowledgeable about system resources, and use various methods for diagnosis and placement. This position requires exhibiting self-control, providing for individual differences, continually evaluating student progress, and cooperating with school-based and central office personnel. The teacher will encourage parent involvement, demonstrate professional growth through inservice training and faculty meetings, conform to Louisiana laws concerning student welfare, and assist in developing quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools. Active participation in the evaluation process is also required, along with performing other duties assigned by the principal.
