About The Position

Provide classroom, targeted instruction for migrant and Title IA and LEP students in language arts, math and/or science. This is a temporary summer school position at Edwards Elementary School. The schedule includes professional development, program preparation, student contact days, a family engagement night, and a final staff workday. All dates, hours, and employment are contingent on enrollment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of specific curriculum content for subject areas being taught.
  • Understanding of social and cultural issues affecting migrant students and their families, and students and families experiencing poverty.
  • Skilled in lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.
  • Demonstrated ability in classroom organization and behavior management.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing and build relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language.
  • Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lessons plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Successful experience teaching migrant, Title IA, AND Title III students.
  • A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with proper K-5 endorsement.
  • Completion of a higher education Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in education/teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follow established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
  • Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Analyze student performance test results and create GLAD and/or ELD strategies with support from colleagues and director, work in PLC’s.
  • Prepare student presentation for closing ceremony.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
