About The Position

The job of the School Counselor is best described as providing a comprehensive school-counseling program that assists all students in acquiring the skills and knowledge to maximize highest student achievement in a safe learning environment. This is a 10-month position serving students K- Grade 5, beginning August 2026. Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling
  • State of Florida School Counselor certification or eligibility for Florida State certification
  • Spoken and written language skills must be strong and representative of an educated professional
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are a must
  • Technology skills must be strong and representative of an educated professional and are required to maintain records and communications
  • Candidates must be able to articulate their faith and support the school’s Christian environment

Responsibilities

  • Guide the development and implementation of an effective school counseling program that focuses on and promotes students’ success and complies with FCIS standards
  • Act as an advocate for all students
  • Value and respond to the diversity and individual differences of students
  • Ensure equitable access to opportunities and rigorous curriculum for all students
  • Collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, community organizations and other stakeholders
  • Provide professional leadership to establish a culture conducive to learning
  • Collaborate with other TVS School Counselors for the purpose of developing, reviewing and maintaining a comprehensive School Counseling Program
  • Provide direct support services by counseling individual and/or small groups of students with academic, career and personal/social concerns
  • Assist students in developing a plan for achieving educational, career and personal/social goals
  • Develop dynamic academic schedules that benefit students’ needs and provides an opportunity for educational growth, including proper student placement
  • Consult with a variety of school-based teams, including the Student Success Team to recommend additional testing or evaluations
  • Confer with classroom teachers, administration, support staff, community agencies and parents regarding students and their needs
  • Provide support to teachers in the delivery of social emotional learning-related curriculum
  • Coordinate with school and community agencies to broaden students’ resources
  • Guide individuals/groups of students through the development of educational plans, career awareness, and personal/social growth issues
  • Keep diligent counseling records, following security and confidentiality protocols
  • Identify and disaggregate critical data, such as grades, test scores, attendance, promotion rates, graduation, and post-secondary enrollment rate
  • Use data to develop strategies to positively impact students
  • Follow the guidelines of the national, state and district standards for professional school counselors
  • Adhere to ethical and legal professional standards
  • Use appropriate technology for counseling services, including online support through distance learning/counseling in the event of an extended school closing
  • Perform other related duties, as required
