About The Position

Tacoma Community College (TCC) seeks a motivated, organized, and enthusiastic individual to serve as an Outreach & Recruitment Specialist for its Entry Services Department. The selected individual must be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment and be passionate about working with diverse student populations. The teammate must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The Outreach Services Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of student recruitment and outreach designed to meet enrollment goals in targeted geographic areas and specific student populations. The position is responsible for programmatic and individual recruitment activities. This position supports the College’s mission by increasing student success and educational access through intentional efforts to assist new students in navigating the entry process. Functioning as part of the larger TCC Student Affairs team, this position serves as a liaison and resource for numerous TCC constituents. The Outreach Services Specialist reports directly to the Director of Entry Services.

  • Conveys ideas clearly and strongly through presentation and public speaking in both small and large groups.
  • Intermediate word processing and spreadsheet experience.
  • Finalist for this position will be subject to a criminal background check.
  • Proof of authorization to work in the United States will be required at the time of hire.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift, move and push materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provide unwavering support to prospective students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring equitable opportunities for success, and fulfilling the mission of fostering equity and success for all at the college.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for fostering partnerships with K-12 and local school districts.
  • Collaborate with local educational programs: College Success Foundation, Metropolitan Development Council (MDC), TRiO programs, and other key community partners.
  • Provide detailed information related to dual-enrollment, educational programs, academic support services, and the admissions and enrollment processes.
  • Assess and promptly respond to the needs and concerns of prospective students and guardians, via email, web chat, social media, phone and in person.
  • Communicate both orally and in written form with prospects and stakeholders about TCC's admission requirements, program offerings, basic financial aid requirements and scholarship opportunities.
  • Attend career and college fairs, family nights, and community events themed around post-secondary enrollment.
  • Provide individual and group admissions support to guide prospective students through the process of becoming a student at TCC.
  • Support prospective, new and returning students in the Welcome Center.
  • Collaborate with TCC Faculty to develop mutually beneficial pipelines between TCC programs and K-12 institutions.
  • Work with the Marketing department at TCC to develop strategic and effective recruitment messages, flyers, and social media initiatives.
  • Work towards increasing admissions applications, student enrollments, and achieving outreach goals set by the Director of Entry Services.
  • Proactively organize, implement and track recruitment activities and events.
  • Provide reports pertaining to outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Organize and facilitate on-campus visits for K-12 students.
  • Develop, schedule, and facilitate off-site workshops, events and services at community organizations, as well as schools, covering a range of topics including admissions, financial literacy, scholarships, financial aid, and the benefits of attending a community college.
  • Assist in the marketing and promotion of TCC and its programs.
  • Supervise Outreach & Recruitment Office work-study employee(s).
  • Professionally represent TCC to its constituents.
  • Organize and facilitate the annual PNACAC Regional College Fair, Counselor Breakfast, Future Titan events, open house programs, and other events geared toward post-secondary enrollment for graduating seniors.
  • Participate in appropriate on-campus committees and task forces related to outreach and recruiting activities.
  • Coordinate with Gig Harbor campus staff on outreach-oriented events and activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
