About The Position

Nah Tah Wahsh PSA is seeking a dedicated, student-centered K–12 Health, Physical Education, and Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teacher to support students’ academic, physical, and social development. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction that promotes lifelong wellness, physical activity, and essential life skills. Grounded in the values of the Hannahville Indian Community, this position emphasizes culturally responsive teaching and the integration of real-world skills, including nutrition, personal wellness, family life, and practical living skills. The teacher will create meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for healthy, productive, and balanced lives.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (Health and Physical Education endorsement preferred; FCS endorsement or experience strongly preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience or interest in teaching life skills, nutrition, wellness, or family and consumer sciences
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, families, and the community
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Nah Tah Wahsh PSA and the Hannahville Indian Community

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in Health, Physical Education, and Family & Consumer Sciences for K–12 students
  • Develop lessons that promote physical fitness, health literacy, nutrition, personal wellness, and life skills
  • Integrate culturally relevant and community-based perspectives into instruction, including wellness practices and family/community values
  • Establish clear instructional objectives and communicate expectations to students
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and support diverse learning needs
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment that supports student growth and well-being
  • Promote student responsibility, teamwork, and healthy decision-making
  • Ensure safe use of equipment, facilities, and materials at all times
  • Manage student behavior in a fair, consistent, and respectful manner aligned with school policies
  • Monitor and assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative methods
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and expectations
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support school-wide instructional goals and initiatives
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school committees as assigned
  • Assist in the selection, organization, and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment
  • Support and/or supervise co-curricular and extracurricular activities as assigned
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth
