About The Position

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for cooperating with the Varsity Head Coach to lead the JVC Boys Tennis team. The season begins on Monday, August 24th, and concludes in late October. Practices will be held approximately three to four times per week from 3:00 PM to 5:00/5:30 PM, as facility space allows. The coach is responsible for teaching appropriate fundamentals, techniques, and skills, and ensuring the health and safety of the athletes. This position emphasizes sportsmanship, leadership, and positive motivation, requiring clear communication with players, parents, administrators, and staff. The coach must also attend all required meetings and training, comply with school policies, and take necessary precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities. Other duties as assigned are also part of this role.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Demonstrated competence and experience in coaching tennis is required
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain valid First Aid/CPR card
  • Must be a strong, successful tennis player
  • Deep knowledge of the intricacies of the game of tennis
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of upper school-aged students
  • Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
  • Professional manner, discretion, and appearance
  • Sense of humor, energy and enthusiasm and ability to hold students and oneself to high expectations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong work ethics
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff

  • Ability to use hands and operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outside in any weather

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Recent successful coaching experience in an Upper School environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teaches appropriate fundamentals, techniques and skills
  • Is responsible for health and safety of the athletes
  • In cooperation with Varsity Head Coach, articulates a well-defined and understandable coaching philosophy
  • Applies developmentally appropriate and age-appropriate methods to coaching student-athletes
  • Emphasize sportsmanship and leadership among athletes
  • Clearly communicates to players, parents, administrators and staff
  • Positively motivate athletes and promote teamwork
  • Attends all meetings and training as required by the league and/or Athletic Director
  • Familiar with and comply with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Benefits

  • Salary Stipend is based on experience and ranges from $4,000-$5,000
  • Stipend paid in two installments on the last workday of each month of September and October
