This position is responsible to the Athletic Director and/or a head coach, providing coaching, development, and supervisory responsibilities for an athletic program. Compensation for this position is contingent upon the specific athletic event being approved by the District to occur during the school year. The district reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. The role requires consistent reporting for work as scheduled, performing other duties as assigned, and attaining proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards. Actively seeking feedback from supervisors and/or colleagues is expected, along with communicating high expectations for athlete behavior and reinforcing those expectations. Regular communication with the Athletic Director and consistent, timely fulfillment of responsibilities regarding fiscal management are also key. The position involves seeking professional growth and learning, demonstrating a solid knowledge of the sport, its policies, rules, and game management strategies. An effective understanding of athletes' developmental levels and the ability to move athletes to their next level are crucial. Compliance with rules and regulations of governing bodies, strong leadership exhibiting fair, understanding, and patient behaviors that create a positive environment, and effective verbal and written communication skills are essential. The role involves developing positive and respectful communications and relationships with stakeholders, effectively building and maintaining a program that fosters both individual and team growth, and creating a competitive environment where all athletes have a chance to experience success. Identifying and applying a variety of strategies and tactics to maximize opportunities for success in competitions is also a responsibility. Equipment must be consistently maintained, inventoried, stored, and re-ordered prior to the season. The position may involve evaluating assistant coaches, defining and using clear communication procedures, and including/valuing stakeholders. Awareness of athlete injuries, communication with the athletic trainer and parents, and proactive injury management with medical release for return to play are required. Planning for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual character development of athletes, producing detailed practice plans for skill progression and strategy development, and regularly pursuing appropriate professional learning activities are also part of the role. Rosters, transportation requests, and certifications must be submitted prior to deadlines. Supervision of all facilities and athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions is required.
