About The Position

This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill multiple Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 positions located in the Anchorage Juvenile Probation office on the campus of the McLaughlin Youth Center. The Juvenile Probation Officer is responsible for monitoring, motivating, and supervising a caseload of both formal case and informal case juvenile offenders to address accountability, facilitate community restoration, and develop the skills necessary to lead productive and crime free lives as adults. The services provided to youth are individualized and focused on their rehabilitation, building upon their strengths. This position will screen and process juvenile criminal referrals from the early pre-court services through the court process, with supervision and case management. The position will facilitate communication and service delivery with parties to include: the youth, their family, attorneys, the court, service providers, and victims of juvenile offenses. The position will develop case plans after coordination with multiple community agencies and treatment programs to provide trauma informed services for delinquent youth, their families, and victims. The position frequently represents the department in formal court environments and produces petitions, reports, documents, and reports to the court most often under inflexible timelines.

Requirements

  • Training in juvenile justice, criminal justice, criminology, sociology, social work, psychology, guidance and counseling, the behavioral sciences, or a closely related field and/or experience providing juvenile justice probation, adult probation, adult protection services, child protection services, or supervision of juvenile offenders in a juvenile justice facility; or providing care or service to delinquent juveniles.
  • For JPO 2: Progressively responsible professional experience providing juvenile justice probation, adult probation, adult protection services, child protection services, or supervision of juvenile offenders in a juvenile justice facility; or providing care or service to delinquent juveniles.
  • Competencies in Decision Making (for JPO 2): Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
  • Successful candidates are subject to a background investigation, criminal record check, fingerprinting, and must complete a medical examination.
  • A valid Alaska driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
