About The Position

The Juvenile Intervention Coordinator role involves managing and developing two key programs within the District Attorney’s Office: the Juvenile Diversion Program and the Prevention Program (Lighthouse Program). The Juvenile Diversion Program aims to provide community-based alternatives to youth entering the juvenile justice system, focusing on counseling, reducing recidivism, and facilitating behavioral change to avoid formal court prosecution. The Prevention Program serves children, youth, and families at risk of entering various systems (juvenile justice, criminal justice, child welfare, truancy) by offering community-based alternatives, counseling, support, and interventions to promote sustainable life changes. The role requires reviewing cases, assessing youth and families, developing case plans, coordinating with external agencies, and maintaining program documentation and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social science or related field
  • Three (3) years related experience
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, develops, and manages the Juvenile Diversion Program.
  • Supervises, develops, and manages voluntary cases referred to the Lighthouse Program.
  • Reviews juvenile cases for eligibility for diversion from formal court prosecution.
  • Meets with juvenile offenders and legal guardians to assess amenability to supervision and appropriateness for diversion.
  • Identifies risks and needs of juveniles, addresses family issues, and monitors appropriate services.
  • Consults with victims regarding diversion referrals and expungement of records.
  • Acts as a liaison between juveniles and victims, making notifications and collecting restitution.
  • Coordinates interns in the diversion program.
  • Participates in Juvenile Justice-related trainings.
  • Researches, completes, and files responses to Petition to Expungement.
  • Reviews cases for the Lighthouse Program to determine an engagement process.
  • Meets with children, youth, and parents/guardians to establish engagement, complete screenings, review goals, and create service agreements.
  • Participates in youth and family-related trainings.
  • Creates case plans with juveniles and legal guardians, determining contract length and conditions.
  • Supervises juveniles in the program to ensure contract compliance.
  • Monitors contracts and communicates with juveniles/parents.
  • Makes determinations to close contracts successfully or refer back to court.
  • Authorizes release of evidence, closes cases, and completes appropriate documentation.
  • Communicates and partners with local agencies to monitor juvenile and family progress.
  • Finds off-site locations for useful public service, refers youth to counseling/substance abuse treatment, verifies school progress, and locates funding for activities and services.
  • Assures timely assignment of diversion referrals and ensures reliable documentation.
  • Completes paperwork for grant compliance, including statistics and goals.
  • Serves as a representative for the District Attorney’s office on community boards or committees.
  • Performs community outreach and provides education on youth issues.
  • Provides instruction and oversight of the administrative assistant.
  • Facilitates communication regarding program trends, gaps, updates, and needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
