About The Position

Under supervision, performs work of routine to complex difficulty providing for the security, daily care, and welfare of detainees in the Juvenile Detention facility. This role involves mentoring, supervising, and directing detained youth, performing searches for contraband, conducting security checks, and maintaining the overall security of the facility. The position also requires coordinating and controlling the movement and activities of detained youth, de-escalating situations, providing crisis intervention, and assisting in escorting or transporting youth. Additionally, responsibilities include kitchen duties, housekeeping, maintaining youth social files, writing reports, and entering data into the Juvenile On-line Tracking System (JOLTS). For the Juvenile Detention Officer role, duties extend to distributing medications, completing intake and release procedures, creating and implementing youth programs, conducting orientations, and facilitating communication between youth and external parties. This position may also involve acting as a shift lead and managing programs, visitors, and support personnel within the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. (for Trainee)
  • Associate degree in related field; OR one year experience working with juveniles in a residential setting; OR six months experience as a Juvenile Detention Officer Trainee with Coconino County OR Bachelor’s degree in related field; OR two years working with juveniles in a residential setting; OR six months experience as a Juvenile Detention Officer with Coconino County OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must submit to background check prior to hire
  • Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for hire within the Juvenile Detention facility
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within the first 3 months on the job
  • Forty hours of orientation training is required within the first month on the job
  • Must successfully complete an additional sixteen hours of COJET-certified training each year thereafter
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; if hired from out of state, must obtain an Arizona driver's license within 30 calendar days of hire and maintain it throughout employment
  • Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report
  • Ability to deal impartially with individuals of various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds

Responsibilities
