Junior Youth Mentor (Remote)

Texas Sports Academy Main
Remote

About The Position

Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school designed for serious student-athletes who want both elite academics and high-level athletic development. Students cover 2x the material in just 2 hours a day, using the same 2-Hour Learning model as Alpha School. That frees up their entire afternoon for serious training, where they work alongside former pro and D1 athletes coaching them at the highest standard. We're hiring a Junior Youth Mentor to help students build the confidence, focus, and resilience they need to perform at a high level in school and in sport. This is a non-clinical coaching and mentorship role focused on mindset, motivation, and everyday skills, not therapy, diagnosis, or treatment.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience is expected. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to engage in meaningful conversations with children and teenagers (ages 9-16).
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to read cues without condescension.
  • Understanding of athletic environments, including competition, training, and performance pressure.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for professional updates to parents and coaches.

  • Background in sports or athletics (playing, coaching, or working in competitive sports).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Help students build practical skills for handling performance pressure, peer dynamics, and the normal ups and downs of being a young athlete in a high-standards environment. Focus on mindset, motivation, and routines, coaching, not clinical care.
  • Share relevant, day-to-day observations with coaches and guides to support students, while respecting their privacy.
  • Keep parents informed about their student's engagement, progress, and goals, and discuss how the family can reinforce school-based learning.
  • Assist students in navigating the TSA learning platform to ensure they can focus on academics and athletics without technical difficulties.
  • Lead group sessions on topics such as recovering from a loss, managing pre-competition nerves, time management, and healthy competition.
