About The Position

The Junior Varsity Girls Soccer Coach at Haverhill Public Schools is responsible for promoting loyalty, leadership, dedication, integrity, physical fitness, sportsmanship, cooperation, and personal responsibility among student-athletes. The role focuses on building a strong culture aligned with core values for the soccer program within the Merrimack Valley Conference. This position requires implementing codes of conduct for coaches, players, and parents, and ensuring adherence to MIAA rules and Haverhill School Committee policies. The coach will develop training programs, manage equipment, travel with the team, and maintain a safe environment for all student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to advocate the importance of education and school community.
  • Successful previous experience as a soccer player or coach.
  • Valid Driver’s License - required
  • First Aid/CPR - required

Nice To Haves

  • Soccer coaching experience - preferred
  • MIAA Coaches Certification - preferred

Responsibilities

  • Promote by example loyalty, leadership, dedication, integrity, physical fitness, sportsmanship, cooperation and personal responsibility.
  • Build a strong culture aligned with core values for the soccer program in the highly competitive Merrimack Valley Conference.
  • Implement codes of conduct for coaches, players, and parents of the HHS soccer team.
  • Work the expected hours to include arriving prior to the student athlete arrival and departure times.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of game and competition rules and educate all coaches and student-athletes to share in that understanding, including the rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
  • Develop appropriate training programs and practice sessions.
  • Ensure the proper cleaning, storage and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms are adhered to in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
  • Travel with student-athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of strategies and rules of soccer.
  • Work with the Head Coach and Athletic Trainer(s) and complete injury reports for any student injured within 24 hours even if the athlete does not see a physician.
  • Work with the Athletic Department staff to ensure the proper forms including physical, attendance, parent consent and medical information is collected prior to the start of the season.
  • Enforce the policies and procedures of the Haverhill School Committee and the Haverhill High School Student Handbook.
  • Supervise appropriate behavior of students from arrival to departure, both on and off the field, including the locker room, buses, practices, and at home and away games.
  • Maintain a safe environment and facilities for all student athletes at all times.
  • Attend the annual HHS all Coaches meeting.
  • Review the HHS Coaches Handbook annually.
  • Review and sign the Massachusetts Anti-Hazing Law Form annually.
  • Demonstrate commitment to protect student athletes from inappropriate conduct.
  • Enforce all rules in all sport-related activities and venues.
  • Report any disciplinary issues immediately to the Head Coach, Athletic Director and Haverhill High School Principal.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Athletic Director, Principal and the Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designee.
