About The Position

We are looking for a Junior Underwriter (for 12 months) that will assist with augmenting the sales and account management function by pricing, evaluating and preparing renewal analyses and new business.

Requirements

  • College/University diploma/degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in group underwriting capacity.
  • Exposure to pooled, experience rated, ASO, and refund accounted funding arrangements.
  • Prior experience underwriting groups of 10 to 100 lives required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications – specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate (oral and written) in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a domestic insurance broker/consulting firm would be a definite asset.
  • French would be an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Pricing of new accounts and submission/negotiation/approval by underwriters.
  • Pricing of plan changes to existing accounts.
  • Collating of rate, plan, and carrier summaries from all participants in market.
  • Production of initial proposal draft for submission to sales for review.
  • Pricing of renewals and submission/negotiation/approval by underwriters.
  • Production of internal renewal memos in advance of confirmation of terms by underwriters, outlining renewal recommendations.
  • Analysis of market adequacy of Lloyd’s rates in relation to markets and plan terms quoted for coverage options.
  • Development of ASO pricing model for large accounts.
  • Development of alternate funding arrangements and negotiation with underwriters on jumbo accounts.
  • Rate and plan pricing for new product development through in-house plan arrangements.
