About The Position

Assist the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) to lead, manage, and conduct the JROTC academic and co-curricular program on a high school campus according to district, school and Army policies and regulations. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures and regulations.

Requirements

High school diploma, Associates or Bachelor's degree, preferred
Retired United States Army non-commissioned officer in the grades of E-6 through E-9 (Staff Sergeants, Sergeants First Class, Master Sergeants, First Sergeants and Sergeants Major) with a minimum of 20 years of service, retired or on orders to retire, and certified by U.S. Army Cadet Command.
Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license
Subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation
Must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; moderate lifting.
Movement of small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom equipment.
Work prolonged or irregular hours.

Responsibilities

Prepare and implement weekly training schedules/lesson plans that fulfill the JROTC curriculum requirements in conjunction with the JROTC Senior Army Instructor.
Prepare lesson plans that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and instructional needs with consistent and high levels of student engagement.
Use the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as the instructional objectives to plan teaching and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Board policies, administrative regulations, and JROTC guidelines and curriculum.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and instructional needs of students assigned.
Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Implement the JROTC academic curriculum using the latest versions of the JROTC Curriculum Manager, Classroom Performance System and other related technology.
Implement a robust and varied co-curricular program that supports the academic curriculum and the school.
Conduct a public affairs effort within the school and the community to further an understanding of JROTC, the school, and the Army.
Enroll students in JROTC and support school officials and the JROTC Senior Army Instructor while executing the curriculum and the integrated extracurricular activities: competitive drill, physical fitness, marksmanship, color guard and other teams as well as community service projects, honor guards, and the JROTC summer program, JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenges (JCLC).
Maintain a minimum JROTC enrollment of 100 cadets or 10% of the student body.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Work cooperatively with other instructional program teachers that impact assigned students to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district requirements.
Assist the Senior Army Instructor in their duty as the central point of contact for military affairs on campus related to college and career readiness, service academy nominations, Senior ROTC university scholarships, enlistments, liaison with community veteran organizations, flag protocol, and significant days of remembrance.
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
Ensure JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly.
Maintain accountability of all school district and U.S. government property.
Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, principals, colleagues and community members.
Conduct frequent conferences with parents, students, teachers and principals to ensure all student achievement is discussed and communicated.
Use clear, effective and professional communication.
Maintain a booster club and/or encourage parents and family members to register as YISD volunteers and actively support the JROTC program on their campus.
Provide formative and summative assessment of student achievement and use results to provide feedback and plan instructional activities.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal taking all safety precautions.
Faithfully represent the military profession, be a positive role model for students, and support the goals and mission of the campus and school district.
Establish rules and orders relating to JROTC instruction and training in coordination with the JROTC Senior Army Instructor and school officials.
Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required.
Participate in training and staff development activities to improve job-related skills, keep up with best practices, keep informed and comply with state, district, school regulations, in addition to state certification requirements.
Maintain JROTC instructor qualification by adhering to all U.S. Army Cadet Command standards outlined in Cadet Command Regulation 145-2 and pass an initial U.S. Army Child National Agency Check and Investigation upon the district's intent to hire and every five (5) years thereafter.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Attendance at the work site is required to meet the essential functions of the job.
Maintain a professional code of ethics; present a professional image in grooming and attire, and serve as a role model for all students.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Perform other duties as assigned, such as but not limited to professional development, supervision of state and local testing, supervision of the student body at selected places and times, and participation in campus activities.
Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distance or virtual learning that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular school business hours to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
Participate in meetings as required and/or coordinated by supervisors.
Utilize the workday to plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate student work, lessons and activities.
Communicate with students and parents for a minimum of one time per week via phone, email, website, educator communication app, or video/virtual conferencing.
Respond to all correspondence from parents and students within the next business day of receipt.
Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
