About The Position

The Municipal Relations team is seeking a motivated student to support key activities related to the Housing Accelerator Fund and research of related topics. This role offers hands-on experience in research and data analysis, program delivery, and government relations within a dynamic environment. The internship program is designed to help you grow, with access to training resources, interesting projects, and networking sessions that support your development and help you discover your full potential. This is a full-time fall intern position beginning in September through December 2026.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a University degree in a related discipline such as public administration, urban planning, political science, or business administration.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of housing programs, policies and social issues.
  • Experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities.
  • Good research and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative analysis and tools.
  • Knowledge of MS Suite of Tools, including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Sharepoint, Teams and PowerBI.
  • Strong oral and written communication, excellent organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset, but not required.
  • Previous experience working directly with or for a municipality.
  • Understanding of local government processes, administration, etc.
  • Understanding of planning and development policy at the municipal level (i.e., reading and interpreting official plans and zoning by-laws)
  • Understanding of planning and development legislation in a given province or territory.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input to policy options and proposals.
  • Provide preliminary analysis for the implementation of policies and programs.
  • Develop and provide relevant research materials, summaries and policy analyses to senior colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of a variety of written documentation, presentations and briefing materials in support of internal and external communications and for various policy requests as required.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis to support policy and programs.
  • Scan the internal and external operating environment for emerging policy and programs.
  • Collect, analyze and synthesize information from diverse sources to identify priority gaps in policies and related policy research and analysis.
  • Provide analysis on specific issues and ad hoc projects by undertaking routine analysis and contributing to non-routine and complex analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement by examining markets, programs, processes and policies.
