About The Position

Under the direction of the Mill Manager, the Junior Metallurgist will manage quality assurance/quality control for the assay lab and mill operations, monitor the process in the mill to maintain or increase production, and identify and troubleshoot issues in the production process. This role will also provide technical assistance to operators, millwrights, and lab technicians, and run tests on new ore bodies and chemicals to get optimal recoveries. The Junior Metallurgist will maintain assay lab chemical inventory, design and supervise plant sampling surveys, analyze extracted data, and make recommendations for change. Additionally, they will compile daily metallurgical reports, maintain current knowledge of industry practice and innovation, and ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Degree in Metallurgy, mineral processing, or chemical engineering
  • Understanding of mineral processing techniques like flotation, gravity separation, and magnetic separation
  • Proficient in interpreting data and performance metrics
  • 3 years' hands-on experience
  • Skill in written and verbal communication (in English), critical thinking, data analysis

  • Design and supervise plant sampling surveys, including proper sampling as required by the particular attributes of the unit operation being studied. Analyze the data extracted and make recommendations for change based on interpretation of the results using sound engineering principles
  • Compile daily metallurgical reports
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry practice and innovation and technological change
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance
  • Other reasonable duties as needed
