About The Position

CANDU Energy Inc./AtkinsRéalis Nuclear Inc. is actively seeking qualified Junior Mechanical Designer to support engineering roles for nuclear projects in major areas, such as, new build in the province of Ontario, international new builds, refurbishment, and continuous plant operation support modifications for nuclear power plants. Position requires working on fast paced technically complex projects in the Nuclear industries. Typical duties and essential functions will include but not be limited to the preparation, design, modification, coordination, and/or review of the following: Prepare electronic documents in AutoCAD and/or Microstation; Sketching, and three-dimensional computer modelling. Follow client driven file management system for document storage. Prepare engineering deliverables for both nuclear and conventional systems in accordance with AtkinsRéalis Nuclear Inc./Candu Energy Quality Assurance Programs and project requirements. Apply relevant Codes & Standards and regulatory requirements and coordinate with design team to ensure the compliances. Ability to take marked up engineering drawings and incorporates changes into AutoCAD files. Interface with Engineering teams, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements. Ensure CAD file configuration management and storage are as per procedure. Prepare drawings/3D models (relative to the discipline) of minimal complexity. As requested, implement any necessary design changes, calculations and materials selection - with assistance from more senior staff. Revise existing drawings/3D models (relative to the discipline) from fairly detailed verbal or written instructions, and/or marked up drawings. Continue to learn the fundamentals of CAD techniques through job experience, coaching and training in order to reach a higher competency level. Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • College diploma or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 2 years in mechanical design and drafting.
  • Working knowledge in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Raster Design, Micro Station and SolidWorks.
  • Individuals are expected to have some basic academic knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD applications.
  • Must be “Team” oriented with a demonstrated ability to work well with other and promote a positive work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff in a team environment as well as independently.

Nice To Haves

  • ASME Code knowledge considered an asset.
