Samsung’s Taylor, Texas semiconductor fabrication facility represents one of the largest and most advanced manufacturing investments in the United States, backed by an initial $17 billion commitment to build a cutting‑edge chip production hub. The site is designed to become a cornerstone of Samsung’s U.S. semiconductor strategy. As part of a long‑term vision to expand U.S. chip production capacity, the Taylor facility positions top engineering talent at the center of a rapidly growing technology cluster with global impact. Position Summary: The Linux Systems Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement of Samsung SDSA’s Linux‑based datacenter and state of the art FAB production environment. Working closely with experienced engineers and IT operations, this individual ensures that all systems are reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs, while supporting disaster‑recovery readiness and high‑availability standards.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience administering Linux systems in enterprise or manufacturing environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability support & maintain VMware‑based solutions; experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of NetApp and EMC storage platforms, including LUN creation, provisioning (iSCSI & Fibre Channel), disk‑pool and staging management, and file‑share services such as CIFS/SMB, NFS, FC, and NDMP.
  • Advanced troubleshooting including analysis of Linux system logs, diagnosing performance or reliability issues, and driving root‑cause resolution.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills and ability to partner with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Maintains meticulous documentation habits and proactively shares insights that strengthen team capability.
  • Thrives in high‑availability, fast‑paced environments and responds effectively to urgent or after‑hours support needs.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US for any employer without restrictions.
  • Must be willing and able to work full time onsite in Taylor, TX

Nice To Haves

  • RHCSA/RHCE, Linux+, Red Hat Certified Engineer
  • Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Bash/KornShell scripting tools combined with programming in Perl and Python for automation, tooling, and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting and delivering Linux‑based open‑source solutions

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Red Hat and Oracle Linux platforms – perform routine administration, health checks, and security hardening across all production servers.
  • Execute patching, upgrades, and migrations – apply OS updates, migrate workloads between hardware or virtual environments, and provide Tier‑2&3 support for complex incidents.
  • Support virtualization infrastructure – configure and manage virtual machines (KVM/VMware) to meet application capacity and performance requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain MIS, MOS, and NES systems – ensure continuous operation of application servers in the Austin and Taylor datacenters, responding to alerts and performing corrective actions.
  • Participate in disaster‑recovery planning and testing – assist in designing DR procedures, conduct scheduled fail‑over drills, and verify recovery time and point objectives.
  • Assist with new system design and implementation projects – contribute to project planning, hardware/software provisioning, and documentation for roll‑outs in FAB/CUB environments.
  • Manage asset inventory and configuration records – keep accurate documentation of server hardware, software licenses, and configuration baselines in alignment with ITIL practices.
  • Provide on‑call support – be ready to respond to critical incidents affecting FAB production lines and facility systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
