About The Position

Leidos' Defense is seeking an Information Junior Linux System Administrator to join their team at their Bowie, MD office. The candidate will be part of an IT team responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance, configuration management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of an expanding wide area network supporting a multi-site secure network. The work to be performed will require the candidate to be able to work comfortably at several levels of support, from supporting IT system administration tickets from installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Linux workstations to servers’ equipment. Provide updates to the IT Manager and ISSM for strategic planning purposes. Projects and tasks will be assigned and at times self-initiated, requiring independent judgment in balancing resources, schedules, work hours, as well as travel to regional sites to obtain results. Work will require the ability to manage the risk for PC workstations and peripherals, and ancillary equipment. Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree and 0-4 years of experience, Associate degree and 6-8 years or High School diploma and 8 or more years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Able to obtain within 6 months DoD 8140/8570 compliant IA certification for IAT II (Security+ CE or higher).
  • Hands-on experience in Linux Server and workstation environments.
  • Demonstrated understanding in the design, implementation, and sustainment of Virtualized Machine (VM) architecture.
  • Demonstrated understanding of system configuration and apply security controls under Risk Management Framework.
  • Demonstrated understanding of computer network concepts (network hardware, cable management, IP address management).
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Excellent customer service skills and clear communications both written and oral.
  • Comfortable working in an environment without immediate supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite in Bowie Maryland.
  • Active and current DoD Secret clearance. (U.S. citizenship is required)

Responsibilities

  • Performing daily Linux system administration and O&M support activities in support of local area network and wide area network environments.
  • Daily sustainment of existing Linux computers and servers, with a particular focus on set-up and maintenance.
  • Monitoring infrastructure systems, applications, and processes, and ensuring that all issues are identified, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Providing support for all infrastructure systems and responding to hardware and software incidents impacting local users.
  • Working with and taking directions from senior system administrators, at times working with them remotely from other locations.
  • Configuration, setup and maintenance of numerous air-gapped Information Systems (IS) and networks.
  • User account management, administration, access/controls and support.
  • Installation, configuration, and management of servers and performance.
  • Client-server support, Linux software packages and hardware upgrades.
  • Provide regression testing on new software releases.
  • Secure and maintain all components IAW established Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and customer directives.
  • Verify and maintain security configuration of the multiple Information Systems.
  • Patch and anti-virus definition management.
  • Manage daily break/fix scenarios, updates, backups, monitoring and user management.
  • Hardware troubleshooting (COTS PC, printer, networks, and encryption hardware).
  • Monitor IT tickets and tasking to ensure requirements are addressed in a timely manner according to priority.
  • Developing/documenting standard operating procedures.
  • Endpoint Protection within Linux environment.
  • Adhere to best practices and provide the highest quality of service and support.
