About The Position

We are looking for a motivated and eager Junior IT Technician to join our IT department. This role is ideal for someone who is early in their IT career and passionate about learning and growing in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The successful candidate will assist with day-to-day IT support tasks, maintain systems and hardware, help ensure network security, and contribute to ongoing improvement projects. Based in Ottawa, this position will provide onsite and remote IT support to our growing Eastern Canada offices. As this role supports both English and French speaking employees, bilingualism (English and French) is required. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build a strong foundation in IT while working with experienced professionals across a variety of technologies.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of relevant IT experience in small to medium-sized environments.
  • Fluency in both English and French (spoken and written) is required to support our bilingual Eastern Canada offices.
  • Completion of a diploma, certificate, or relevant post-secondary education in IT or a related field.
  • Basic experience in deploying and configuring Windows and macOS devices.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Familiarity with IT service management systems (e.g., FreshService, Jira) and ITIL practices.
  • Understanding of network fundamentals including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networking.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Enthusiastic about traveling to other office locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to server environments or cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure) is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the cyber security field is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, configure, and deploy workstations, laptops, and user environments for optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Support the helpdesk system by triaging and responding to service tickets in a timely and professional manner.
  • Take the lead on Tier 1 triage of cybersecurity alerts, performing initial analysis and escalation of potential threats in accordance with established procedures.
  • Participate in routine IT operations, including user account management, updates, and patching.
  • Assist in the administration and maintenance of network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, and wireless networks.
  • Occasionally assist with after-hours support as required.
  • Travel to the Montreal office at least once per month, with additional travel to other BGC office locations as needed.
