About The Position

AECOM’s Chicago Buildings + Places team is seeking a talented and motivated Junior Interior Designer to support the design and execution of interior design projects across multiple typologies. This role is strongly design-focused, requiring a high level of creativity, technical proficiency, and organizational rigor. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently on assigned tasks while also contributing effectively within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams. This role is a hybrid position located in Chicago, IL. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or interior design + minimum 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Powerpoint, and rendering tools like V-Ray or Enscape.

  • General Understanding of building codes, regulations, and construction processes.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable balancing creativity with technical and practical constraints.
  • LEED Accreditation.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute meaningfully to programming & visioning, concept design, space planning, and design development across a range of project types.
  • Research and source materials, finishes, and furnishings that align with the design vision and project budget.
  • Assist in developing design narratives, mood boards, material palettes, FF&E selections, and finish concepts.
  • Produce high-quality design drawings, diagrams, and presentation materials that clearly communicate design intent.
  • Support senior team members during client presentations and design reviews.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documents using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Review and revise design documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in quality control and drawing coordination reviews.
  • Stay current on design trends, innovations, and best practices, sharing insights with teams and clients.
