About The Position

AKIVA is seeking a Junior Interior Designer to support the VA Long Beach Healthcare System Engineering Service Planning Section, reporting to the Major Projects Activation and Interior Design Team. Working alongside the contracted Interior Designer, Interior Design Assistant, and VA Interior Designer, the Junior Interior Designer will plan and carry out assigned tasks that support major project activations, space planning, FF&E preparation, and delivery and installation management.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Patient Centered Care culture in healthcare
  • Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Skilled in free-form drawing and drawing to scale on job sites
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Expertise in the selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings
  • Working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC, OSHA, and NFPA
  • Effective written and verbal communication with contractors, management officials, vendors, Contracting Officers, and VA Long Beach staff
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Work with the contracted Interior Designer, Interior Design Assistant, and VA Interior Designer to create and execute design services for offices, conference rooms, patient care exam rooms, treatment rooms, waiting rooms, entry lobbies, and support areas
  • Prepare detailed AutoCAD designs, plans, sketches, perspectives, color schemes, and visual aids for design presentations
  • Develop AutoCAD FF&E plan layers aligned to building codes, major equipment, materials, placeholder furnishings, and traffic patterns
  • Produce procurement packages following VA contracting standards including SOW, technical specifications, attachments, documentation, drawings, IGCEs, bid sheets, and budgets
  • Manage activation-related purchasing of furnishings, accessories, art, signage, equipment, office supplies, and environmental management supplies
  • Maintain the Interior Design Resource Library including drawings, plans, specification procurement documents, project correspondence, and binders
  • Review wayfinding signage plans, furniture and artwork installation plans, and direct installation crews; develop punch lists and coordinate completion
  • Follow working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC, OSHA, and NFPA
  • Coordinate activities with Contracting, Logistics, EMS, OI&T, Material Management, Engineering, and end-user stakeholders
  • Document meeting notes and design collateral supporting transition and move-in planning
