About The Position

The Chicago Buildings + Places team, a high-performing and fast-growing practice in AECOM’s West Region, is seeking a talented and motivated Junior Interior Designer. This role is strongly design-focused, requiring creativity, technical proficiency, and organizational rigor. The designer will support the design and execution of interior design projects across multiple typologies, working independently on assigned tasks while contributing effectively within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams. The Chicago B+P team offers a full suite of services including architecture, interiors, building systems, urbanism, and advisory services, serving a global client base across various sectors. The team emphasizes collaboration across business lines and regions, aiming to be the design firm and employer of choice for impactful work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or interior design
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Powerpoint, and rendering tools like V-Ray or Enscape
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of experience in commercial interiors.
  • Professional licensure in field of study.
  • Experience across a range of project sizes and typologies

  • General Understanding of building codes, regulations, and construction processes.
  • Strong organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute meaningfully to programming & visioning, concept design, space planning, and design development across a range of project types.
  • Research and source materials, finishes, and furnishings that align with the design vision and project budget.
  • Assist in developing design narratives, mood boards, material palettes, FF&E selections, and finish concepts.
  • Produce high-quality design drawings, diagrams, and presentation materials that clearly communicate design intent.
  • Support senior team members during client presentations and design reviews.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documents using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Review and revise design documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in quality control and drawing coordination reviews.
  • Stay current on design trends, innovations, and best practices, sharing insights with teams and clients.
