The Junior Instrumentation and Monitoring Specialist will join WSP’s Instrumentation and Monitoring team to support the delivery of infrastructure and construction projects through high-quality monitoring and field support. This full-time role, based in the Markham office, offers a strong balance of field and office work, providing an opportunity to build hands-on experience while contributing to safe, data-driven project execution. Requirements

  • University degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Fundamental understanding of instrumentation and monitoring principles and practices.
  • Experience with installation of monitoring instruments, data collection, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Experience using total station surveying units and monitoring read‑out equipment (e.g., inclinometers, strain gauges).
  • Experience working on construction sites and supporting site coordination activities.
  • Experience conducting pre‑ and post‑construction condition surveys and assisting with report preparation.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in both field and office settings.
  • Valid G driver’s license, access to a vehicle with appropriate insurance, and ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds and work near railway tracks.
  • Availability for local travel and extended working hours, including night shifts and weekends, when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated monitoring systems or geotechnical drilling procedures is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instrumentation and monitoring technical services in both field and office environments.
  • Install a variety of monitoring instruments, including building, utility, settlement and rail monitoring points, inclinometers, shape accelerometer arrays, monitoring wells, vibrating wire piezometers, strain gauges, electrolevel beams, tiltmeters, and crack gauges.
  • Collect monitoring data using total station surveying equipment and other instrument read‑out units, as required.
  • Support troubleshooting of instrumentation issues by coordinating with suppliers and engineers and providing on‑site assistance.
  • Coordinate instrumentation and monitoring site activities with general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers under guidance from senior staff.
  • Assist with general site work related to instrumentation, including installation, maintenance, and decommissioning activities.
  • Review and analyze monitoring data and assist with maintaining monitoring visualization platforms.
  • Prepare monitoring reports and provide support to geotechnical and construction services teams with additional field and office activities, as required.
