About The Position

In this role, you’ll support air quality monitoring programs that directly influence environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and sustainable development across Alberta. As a Junior Air Quality Monitoring Instrumentation Technician, you’ll join WSP’s growing Environmental Management team, working alongside engineers, scientists, and technical specialists on meaningful, high‑profile projects. With a strong focus on instrumentation and field-based monitoring, this role offers hands‑on experience maintaining and operating ambient air monitoring equipment while contributing reliable data that supports healthier communities and ecosystems.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Instrumentation & Controls, or a closely related technical discipline
  • Hands‑on experience working with environmental or industrial monitoring instrumentation, calibration equipment, and data loggers
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude, with confidence using hand tools, electronic test equipment, and diagnostic software
  • Familiarity with ambient air monitoring systems, analyzers, sensors, and field sampling methodologies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for technical documentation and data management
  • Commitment to high‑quality, accurate work, data integrity, and confidentiality in field and office environments

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and monthly calibrations of ambient air monitoring instruments to ensure data accuracy and regulatory alignment
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and minor repairs on air quality monitoring instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems
  • Deploy, retrieve, and manage intermittent and passive air sampling equipment across diverse field locations
  • Set up, operate, and maintain continuous ambient air monitoring stations, including power supply, telemetry, and data logging components
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical issues to minimize downtime and protect data integrity
  • Prepare clear and accurate field notes, calibration logs, and maintenance records to support data validation and reporting
  • Contribute to monitoring programs that inform environmental decision‑making and regulatory compliance across Alberta
