About The Position

Providence Hall is a charter school located in Herriman, UT. Central to the school's mission is teaching students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly. Students at the Junior High participate in pathways that focus their classes in areas that not only meet state standards, but also support their individual interests, foster their desires to try something new, and aim to prepare them for transition to high school. Providence Hall seeks a highly skilled and enthusiastic Junior High Theater Teacher to join our team. As a Junior High teacher, you collaborate with a dynamic team of professional teachers and leaders as we strive to provide rich, immersive experiences to our students.

Requirements

  • Current valid Utah teaching license (in CACTUS) in Secondary Education with Theatre Endorsement.
  • Strong knowledge of Utah state standards, Utah theatre curriculum, and best instructional pedagogy practices.
  • Proven classroom experience or completion of student teaching theatre-related subject at the junior high level.
  • Ability to create a unit plan and aligned engaging, differentiated lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Capacity to perform all the essential job functions listed in this posting.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace and its collaboration tools.
  • High level organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task easily.
  • Positive interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional communication skills including but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident, articulate and professional speaking abilities; empathetic listening; and persuasive speaking.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds, traverse school facility, and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Teach five theatre classes: Production 1 - Costume and Makeup Design, Production 2 - Set and Lighting Design, Theatre 1 - Improv Acting, Theatre 2 - Playwriting and Advanced Acting, and Theatre 3 - Musical Theater.
  • Cultivate students' appreciation for all things theatre and guide them in discovering and nurturing their artistic talents.
  • Direct the Junior High musical, a cherished annual event at our school.
  • Develop and implement engaging theatre lessons that align with the curriculum and educational standards.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, fosters a love for learning and where students feel comfortable exploring new concepts, challenging themselves, and collaborating with other students.
  • Understand and employ strong classroom management techniques, including the use of the schoolwide PBIS system.
  • Employ various teaching strategies and resources to differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and meet students' diverse needs.
  • Assess student progress in various ways, administer required RISE benchmarks as one of the tools to assess student progress, and use assessment data to provide constructive feedback to facilitate individualized student growth and improvement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and coordinate interdisciplinary projects and activities.
  • Establish effective communication channels with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues to ensure a collaborative learning community.
  • Actively participate in department, grade level, campus, and LEA meetings, professional developments, and other trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
