About The Position

Outreach is a Christian community service organization providing counseling, case management, youth development, older adult service, and community development. For 50 years, Outreach has changed the lives of thousands of individuals, children, youth, and families in DuPage County, IL, and we are seeking to hire a diverse staff of highly competent professional employees to pursue Outreach’s mission to restore hope and provide opportunities for people to become all that God intends them to be. Outreach is hiring a Part-time Junior High Teacher (Bilingual preferred) at Outreach West Chicago (Puente del Pueblo) to support students in our after-school program academically and in life skills. School-year Schedule: 25 hours/week during the academic year, Monday to Friday from 1:30PM – 6:30PM with monthly Saturday programs. Summer Schedule : 40 hours/week in the summer, Monday to Friday from 8:00AM-4:30PM. Hours vary during school breaks and holiday weeks, and some evening or weekend hours are required for special events and other program needs.

Requirements

BA in education, social work, youth ministry, or a related field.
Previous experience working with junior high students in a classroom or ministry setting.
Experience with and sensitivity to the needs of students from low-income, high-risk families.
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to be flexible.
Team player as well as an independent professional.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
A commitment to Outreach's Statement of Mission & Faith and a passion to model this commitment in the classroom.

Responsibilities

Build relationships with a group of 15-18 students and facilitate learning by leading a class in an after-school program.
Work with groups of students in academic tutoring, homework support and completion, life skill building, problem-solving, Christian education, STEM education, service-learning education, parent communication, and recreational activities.
Maintain Puente’s standard of classroom behavior during program time, assessing and monitoring students’ progress and transporting students to and from the program.
Direct and coach volunteer tutors/interns in the classroom.
Help to transport students home in a program vehicle.
