About The Position

The Junior Engineer will contribute to the critical acquisition of both cutter based boats and shore based boats and collaborate with experienced engineers and Coast Guard personnel to review, analyze, and support all aspects of small-boat programs. You'll gain exposure to technical documentation, configuration management, and direct engagement with boat builders-developing skills that will set the foundation for a successful engineering career. This role offers hands-on experience with real-world engineering challenges and provides an excellent opportunity to learn the full lifecycle of boat development and the DHS acquisition process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Rhino, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent written communication skills for creating clear, concise documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively remotely in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with federal acquisition projects for the U.S. Coast Guard or other maritime agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and engineering support for programs such as the Motor Lifeboat Service Life Extension and the Over The Horizon cutter boat.
  • Develop, review, and update technical documentation, including engineering drawings, test plans, acceptance checklists, and maintenance procedures.
  • Support configuration management to ensure compliance with Coast Guard policies, industry standards, and acquisition requirements.
  • Collaborate daily with Coast Guard technical leads, program managers, and engineering staff to achieve program objectives.
  • Coordinate with boat builders to propose design changes, provide feedback on construction, and verify structural integrity through calculation-based analysis.
  • Review and comment on Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) to ensure compliance with Statements of Work (SOW) and specifications.
  • Conduct research and synthesize findings into a report that addresses a technical concern.
