About The Position

Westinghouse Electric Co is seeking a Junior Engineer for their Waste Management group, which provides technical services for worldwide clients in radioactive waste management. This includes waste collection, handling, treatment, packaging, and discharge. The role involves preparing engineering documents such as calculations, system and operational descriptions, licensing documents, and procurement specifications. The group offers process system design, unit process design, regulatory/licensing interface support, bid development, and facility design integration, supporting new reactor development, operating plants, and decommissioning projects. This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days per week on-site at the Westinghouse Global Headquarters in Cranberry Woods, PA, and reports to the Senior Manager Waste Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering from an accredited university or college
  • 0 or more years of experience (full-time work experience or internships/co-ops)
  • Technical interest
  • Understanding of project priorities
  • Teamwork abilities
  • Proficiency in additional languages in addition to English

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge about fluid systems design
  • Knowledge about nuclear waste management systems
  • Knowledge about water purification system design (ion exchange, reverse osmosis, filtration)
  • Experience with general programming languages (MATLAB, PYTHON)

Responsibilities

  • Manage system/facility requirements for waste management
  • Perform equipment sizing calculations
  • Support process optimization projects
  • Collaborate with drafting to develop system diagrams (flow, instrumentation and control, general arrangement and layout)
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals (technical descriptions, calculation of efforts, client requirement identification and management)
  • Work in international teams (collaboration with US and European technical and business teams)
