About The Position

This role is for a Junior Design Engineer at Ashby, a company that values individuals who excel in both design and coding. Requirements

  • No more than 2 years of industry experience as a designer or engineer.
  • Demonstrate projects (personal or professional) with at least a couple of users that showcase great visual taste.
  • Showcase burgeoning talent in both UI/UX and Engineering.
  • Good proficiency with TypeScript, React, and CSS.
  • Ability to build conviction by shipping to a subset of users and gathering feedback.
  • Excellent taste and execution in visual design.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate deliberately.
  • Willingness to take ownership of projects and drive them to solutions.
  • Comfort with minimal process and structure.
  • Ability to contribute to customer issues and investigations.
  • Proficiency with TypeScript, React, and CSS is expected at a minimum.
  • Proficiency with backend technologies is a plus.

  • Experience designing products and shipping code to hundreds of users (even if through side projects).

Responsibilities

  • Design and code features.
  • Work on challenging design problems.
  • Expand and enhance the in-house design system.
  • Consult on bespoke design work needed by Product Engineers.
  • Redesign mobile web apps, including customer interviews, wireframing, implementing the design system, and creating polished UI.
  • Build flexible, composable components for the design system.
  • Improve information hierarchy and scannability of designs.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers on strategy and customer research.
  • Take ownership of projects from problem definition to end-to-end implementation.
  • Contribute to developer tooling and abstractions.
  • Participate in customer issue investigations.
  • Engage in pair programming, collaborative design system work, and discussions about decisions during the interview process.
