Temporary Part-Time Junior Data Analyst
About The Position
The Junior Data Analyst supports the Analytics department’s analytics and data management initiatives. This role is suited to someone developing foundational skills in coding, data analysis, and reporting. The analyst assists with gathering, analyzing, and preparing data for reporting, and builds basic dashboards and visualizations. Working under the guidance of a Data Analyst and the Analytics Manager, the role contributes to operational and strategic data projects. The position is listed as temporary, part-time, and fully remote in California. The work arrangement may be onsite, hybrid, or fully remote based on agency needs and may be adjusted to support operational requirements. Remote employees must keep their cameras on during virtual meetings.
Requirements
- Basic proficiency in Python, DAX, SQL, Power BI, and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity about working with data.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, or another related field.
- Some experience with data analysis or coursework in a related field.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field; preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
- Exposure to business intelligence technologies and data visualization tools.
Responsibilities
- Assist in analyzing and interpreting data using basic SQL, Excel, and Power BI.
- Participate in continuous learning, especially in Excel, Power BI, DAX, Python, and SQL.
- Collaborate with senior analysts and stakeholders to understand reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain simple Power BI dashboards and visualizations.
- Conduct basic data validation and cleaning to help ensure data accuracy.
- Contribute to ad-hoc reports and respond to data requests from different teams.
- Identify trends in datasets to help inform business decisions.
- Assist in managing data connections to support smooth data flow from storage systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
