About The Position

Heartflow is a medical technology company focused on advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease. They are seeking a motivated Junior Automation Engineer to join their Platform team. This role involves building, maintaining, and scaling internal tools that support the engineering ecosystem. The work directly impacts the company's status as a Medical Device (SaMD), bridging rapid software innovation with rigorous FDA/regulatory compliance. The engineer will collaborate with Software Engineering, QA, and Regulatory teams to automate testing, streamline deployments, and generate necessary traceability artifacts. Heartflow is undergoing a significant Platform Modernization initiative to enhance its life-saving medical products. The Infrastructure Platform team is looking for individuals passionate about cloud-native technologies and large-scale migrations, particularly those skilled in Kubernetes for complex compute challenges. This role is crucial for modernizing event-driven serverless and containerized workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience (including strong internships or co-ops) in software development, automation, test engineering, or DevOps.
  • Proficiency in Python or other programming languages and at least one shell scripting language (Bash, PowerShell).
  • Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub, issue tracking systems (Jira), and an understanding of continuous integration/continuous deployment concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to debug pipeline failures, API integration issues, and optimize build times.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to document processes clearly for technical and regulatory audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) to accelerate coding, debugging, and test generation.
  • Familiarity with integrating LLM APIs into internal automation workflows.
  • Familiarity with Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), ALM/QMS tools (like Ketryx, Greenlight Guru, or Jama), HIPAA, or working within FDA/ISO 13485 quality systems.
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs or Webhooks to connect third-party SaaS applications.
  • Basic knowledge of AWS (or similar cloud providers) and container technologies like Docker.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot integrations between tools like Jira, GitHub, Ketryx etc., ensuring seamless flow of information for traceability.
  • Automate the generation of compliance documentation, test reports, and traceability matrices for FDA and ISO 13485 audits.
  • Write and maintain Python and shell scripts to create internal developer tools that improve engineering velocity, reduce manual toil, and enforce code quality.
  • Troubleshoot build failures, optimize local development environments, and clarify expected software behaviors in collaboration with QA, DevOps, and Product engineers.
