About The Position

The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is seeking a Junior Accountant for its Financial Services department. This role reports to the Manager, Finance & Reporting and is responsible for reviewing, coding, and recording revenues and expenses in the accounting system. The Junior Accountant will also prepare weekly cheque runs and ensure the accuracy of fee revenue in accordance with ASC fee rules. The Financial Services department plays a crucial role in maintaining effective internal control over financial reporting, preparing annual budgets, and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting to various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Relevant post-secondary education in accounting, finance or related area.
  • A minimum of two years experience working with accounts payable and revenue data entry and processing.
  • Demonstrated ability in meeting deadlines, excellent attention to detail, and strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of routine clerical accounting processes and journal entries, internal control processes and external audit requirements.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including MS Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Acumatica or similar accounting software is preferred.
  • Experience with CRM will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Tracking activities and entering the revenue data using CRM.
  • Classifying, coding and recording expenses and payables by following established clerical accounting procedures and guidelines.
  • Checking balance statements and other information from financial institutions to ensure correctness and completeness.
  • Maintaining and inputting accurate financial data and information.
  • Preparing weekly cheques, EFT’s and wire requests.
  • Issuing and distributing notes related to outstanding fees, revenue refunds, and notice of proceeds.
