About The Position

Performs intermediate administrative work reducing the time defendants spend in pretrial custody, scheduling and managing the rapid resolution docket, managing the mental health docket, monitors the jail census on an ongoing basis, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the directed supervision of the Chief Judge.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of related industry, organization and department policies, practices and procedures as well as a general knowledge of legal guides, recommendations and best practices
  • Thorough knowledge of Official Code of Georgia Annotated, particularly Title 17 (Criminal Procedure) including O.C.G.A § 17-7-130 (competency evaluation procedures)
  • Thorough knowledge of Uniform Superior Court Rules and Code of Judicial Conduct
  • Thorough knowledge of standing orders of the Coweta Judicial Circuit
  • Thorough knowledge of indictments and accusations and relevant law and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of competency evaluation reports and related correspondence from the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, relevant privacy laws associated therewith
  • Thorough knowledge of jail census reports and inmate status documentation from the Sheriff’s Office
  • Thorough knowledge of PeachCourt and case management system documentation
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Thorough understanding of AI-assisted data analysis and document tools
  • Ability to use standard office equipment and software
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with attorneys, judges, doctors, nurses, various departments, members of law enforcement, court reporters, associates, clients and the general public
  • Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR)
  • Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and manages the rapid resolution docket to expedite disposition of in-custody lower-level felonies and probation revocations utilizing jail census data to prioritize resolution of in-custody cases
  • Manages the mental health docket and coordinates competency evaluations with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for criminal case correspondence
  • Attends all non-jury criminal court dates to coordinate scheduling and to track case resolution
  • Drafts and publishes criminal calendars in collaboration with judges, defense attorneys, the Clerk’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office
  • Manages the motions for new trial docket to keep post-conviction and appellate matters moving
  • Tracks case resolution data and reports trends to the Chief Judge
  • Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.
