About The Position

The Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen Vicinage, is seeking a reliable, well-organized, detail-oriented secretary for a prestigious position to support a Superior Court Judge in our Civil Division’s Special Civil Unit. The selected individual must have strong keyboarding, technical, and administrative skills. This is a full-time, temporary position that will last approximately through mid-June 2027. Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: preparing and analyzing legal documents, processing legal or other documents, transcribing information, and scheduling meetings or appointments.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and working knowledge of Microsoft Office is helpful.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a clerical training program with a minimum of 700 classroom training hours or 30 semester hour credits in secretarial science may be substituted for one (1) year of experience indicated above. Course work must include typing skills, methods, and procedures; other courses may include, but are not limited to, office procedures, word processing, and business English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to the judge
  • Distribute and conform judge's orders or requests
  • Coordinate availability and technology capabilities of court users for remote court hearings
  • Communicate judge's schedule with division scheduling coordinator
  • Prepare and submit reports
  • Compile case documents and organize case jackets
  • Review and update case data in our data systems
  • Sort and distribute chamber's mail
  • Type and/or prepare contracts or legal documents
  • Compose correspondence
  • Answer inquiries from the public
  • Edit and proofread letters, documents or articles
  • File records, reports, forms, letters or other written documents
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
