About The Position

The JROTC - Air Force instructor's primary goal is to motivate and encourage students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for becoming responsible citizens. This role involves maintaining supply accountability, managing unit logistics, and implementing a state course of study to meet student needs. The instructor will plan and execute learning experiences, organize and supervise extracurricular activities for cadets, and evaluate student progress. Additionally, the instructor must maintain AFJROTC student records, comply with safety guidelines, and exhibit positive human relations skills. Communication with parents, colleagues, and community groups is essential, as is maintaining and submitting records and reports. The instructor is expected to adhere to all school system rules and regulations, engage in professional growth, and serve as an ambassador for the Air Force, exemplifying a positive image through professional conduct. This position is subject to the Students First Act of 2011 and may be filled by internal transfer. Credit toward tenure is affected by the hire date if it occurs after September 30.

Requirements

  • Must be a retired United States Air Force Commissioned Officer
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Complete the mandatory Air Force JROTC Instructor Certification Course (JICC) as a condition of certification
  • Must be eligible for a Alabama Teaching Certificate
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains supply accountability in strict compliance with Air Force security regulations
  • Responsible for unit logistics
  • Utilizes and follows the state course of study
  • Determines individual and class needs
  • Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences
  • Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives
  • Organizes, supervises and participates in extracurricular activities for AFJROTC cadets to include color guard, drill teams and other special activities
  • Evaluates student progress and counsels cadets on their performance within the AFJROTC program
  • Maintains AFJROTC student records as required by the Department of Air Force regulations and local policies
  • Complies with Air Force and school district safety guidelines when instructing, supervising, monitoring and accompanying cadets
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills
  • Communicates with parents/ guardians, colleagues and community groups
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication
  • Maintains and submits records and reports
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations
  • Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership
  • Be an Ambassador of the Air Force. An AFJROTC instructor is expected to exemplify a positive image of the Air Force at all times by conducting themselves in a highly professional manner, in both their words and their actions
