About The Position

The Junior Staff Accountant, Corporate Accounting ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, reconciling, consolidating, and entering financial data. Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of premium automotive replacement parts. Additionally, SMP provides customized solutions for vehicle control and thermal management products. Globally, SMP employs over 6,000 employees across nearly 40 manufacturing, distribution, and engineering facilities and offices located in North America, Europe and Asia. SMP sells its products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Sharepoint.
  • Capable of working as a team player and comfortable being part of a “hands on” team of professionals.
  • Strong work ethic a must.
  • Ability to exercise proper judgment with above average analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback and grow.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, Masters/MBA, and/or prior experience in a public accounting firm would be desirable but not required.
  • Experience with Oracle FCCS, Workiva for SEC reporting, and Microsoft power query would be desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains corporate trial balance by analyzing account activity and completing monthly reconciliations. Posts adjusting journal entries as deemed necessary.
  • Reviews and consolidates the Company’s worldwide headcount report.
  • Prepares and reviews all monthly stock compensation journals including preparation of supporting deferred tax calculations and paid in capital reconciliation.
  • Reviews the Company’s external financial statements, footnotes and disclosures included in the Form 10-Q and Form10-K filings with the SEC.
  • Participation in the Company’s internal control compliance effort surrounding Sarbanes-Oxley s404 by preparing support for controls and with additional opportunity to assist internal audit with testing.
  • Ad hoc projects, as needed.
