About The Position

Performs routine repetitive tasks under close supervision in patient care areas, the dietary service office, main kitchen, atrium dining room, or tray room. Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of the work area. This role involves portioning and serving food, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, proper storage of food and leftovers to avoid waste, and adhering to sanitation codes and regulations. The aide will also distribute dietary carts to nursing units, record messages, and promote the hospital's mission and philosophy. A key aspect of the role is ensuring patient satisfaction through friendly and attentive interaction, understanding their needs, and maintaining communication for a positive experience.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in high school.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Willingness to work for the best interest of the institution.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Works under supervision, but some initiative is needed to maintain work flow and keep area clean and sanitary.
  • Willingness to work with the realization that errors may result in serious consequences to patients.
  • Courtesy and tact in handling telephone calls and in inter-relations with other Hospital Departments.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of patients, medical diagnosis, treatment, and other similar information.
  • Willingness to learn is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Receives written and oral instructions for food portioning, service, and supply management.
  • Functions as a dietary aide in the main kitchen or tray room.
  • Portions and serves food according to supervisor specifications.
  • Maintains cleanliness and neatness of the work area, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Responsible for the storage of foods and leftovers and the avoidance of food waste.
  • Follows sanitation codes and applicable regulations for food handling, equipment, and work areas.
  • Distributes dietary carts (meals) to assigned nursing units.
  • Records telephone messages as required.
  • Promotes and fosters the mission and philosophy of the Hospital.
  • Actively supports and participates in Hospital's Performance Improvement endeavors.
  • Attends all annual mandatory educational programs as required.
  • Ensures patient satisfaction by interacting in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to needs, and maintaining communication for a secure and pleasant experience.
